Forged Fittings ASME B16.11

Time of publication:2024-04-03

Forged fittings are used for pipelines with a diameter of less than 2 or 4 inches (4 inches for 2000/3000 fittings, 2 inches for 6000/9000 fittings), while butt-welded fittings are used for larger diameter pipelines.

The two main types of forged fittings are the so-called socket fittings (which are connected to pipes by angular welds) and threaded fittings (the pipe is screwed to the fitting).

ASME B16.11, MSS SP 75, MSS SP 83, MSS SP 95 standards cover forged fittings (with socket welding and threaded) suitable for pipes made of carbon, alloy, stainless and nickel alloys ASME B36.10 and ASME B36.19 of small bore diameter.

Forged fittings are made of solid steel blocks that are machined to obtain the final required shape within the tolerances set by the applicable standards mentioned above. They differ from welded pipe fittings, which are made by cutting, bending and forming seamless or welded steel pipes.
